Hoppy Easter

We colored Easter Eggs last weekend and Tyler really enjoyed it. He had so much fun dropping each egg in a cup of dye and would have kept dipping every egg into every color but I was able to convince him that one color per egg was the way to go. Dylan was interested for the first 5 minutes and then he checked out. I have to say the colors turned out really great this time.
Tyler and Dylan both really enjoy searching for Easter eggs so almost every day they ask me to hide plastic eggs in the backyard, either empty or with a little treat for dessert if they just had lunch.

Letztes Wochenende haben wir Ostereier gefaerbt und Tyler hat es riesig Spass gemacht. Er fand es ganz toll jedes Ei in einen Becher Farbe plumpsen zu lassen und haette gerne jedes Ei einmal in jede Farbe getunkt aber ich konnte ihn doch noch ueberzeugen dass eine Farbe pro Ei genug ist. Dylan war ganz Feuer und Flamme fuer die ersten 5 Minuten und hat dann seinen Abgang gemacht. Ich muss sagen die Eier sind diesmal richtig toll bunt und leuchtend geworden.
Tyler und Dylan lieben es nach Ostereiern zu suchen. Sie fragen mich fast jeden Tag ob ich fuer sie Plastik Ostereier verstecken kann, entweder leer oder mit einer Suessigkeit zum Nachtisch wenn sie gerade mit mittag fertig sind.

If You're Going to San Francisco...

Our Lives have been following a fairly regular routine for the past 5 years or so. This is normal. We live in Orange County suburbia, with lots of young families, kids sports on the weekends, homework and housework during the week, and our longtime weekly tradition of Thursday night dinner with Rupert and Gretchen. We've known them forever. Steve went to school with both of them. I lived with Rupert for almost 2 years when i moved here in 2000. They are like Family to us. We've been doing Thursday night dinners for the past 10 years. Last Thursday was the last time we got to get together and eat and talk and watch TV, because Rupert and Gretchen are moving...to San Francisco. Gretchen has a new job with a great company in SF and she has been up there this week to start her new position. I am sad to see them go but at the same time I am so excited and can only imagine how thrilling and new everything will be for them, from moving into a new apartment, to exploring the city for nice restaurants and things to do on the weekends, to hosting us when we come visit them, hopefully very soon. :D
I've experienced this before, distance doesn't change family.

Seit mehr als 5 Jahren laeuft unser Leben in recht geregelten Bahnen. Das ist normal. Wir wohnen in vorstadt Orange County, mit vielen jungen Familien, Kids Sport Aktivitaeten am Wochenende, Hausaufgaben und Haushalt unter der Woche, und unsere langjaehrige, woechentliche Tradition: Donnerstags Dinner mit Rupert und Gretchen. Wir kennen Rupert und Gretchen schon ewig. Steve ging mit beiden damals zur Schule. Ich wohnte mit Rupert fuer 2 Jahre als ich in 2000 herzog. Sie sind wie Familie fuer uns. Wir haben diese Tradition jeden Donnerstag gemeinsam Dinner zu essen schon ueber 10 Jahre lang. Letzten Donnerstag war das voraussichtlich letzte mal denn die beiden ziehen weg....nach San Francisco. Gretchen hat einen neuen job mit einer guten Firma in SF und sie fing diese Woche Dienstag an zu arbeiten. Rupert hat seine jetzige Stelle gekuendingt und wird wohl naechste Woche nachziehen. Ich bin traurig dass sie wegziehen, aber gleichzeitig bin ich auch aufgeregt und kann mir genau vorstellen wie aufregend und neu alles fuer sie sein wird, vom Einziehen in ihre neue Wohnung, neue Restaurants finden und Wochenendaktivitaeten bis zu Gastgeber fuer uns spielen wenn wir hoffentlich bald das erste Mal zu Besuch kommen. :)
Ich hab dies schon einmal durchgemacht: Distanz aendert nichts wenn man eine Familie ist.

Go Dylan!!!

Dylan is playing his second season of Little League baseball. Last year it was T-ball, where the ball is laid on a stand in front of them and they have to hit it. Now, its Coach Pitch, the coach actually throws them the ball and they hit it out of the air. Pretty impressive for a bunch of little 6-year-olds!

This last Saturday was the 2nd game of the season. Dylan's team is called the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and they took on the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the game because it was at 2pm and Tyler was sleeping. Steve took Dylan and told me afterward that Dylan played fantastic. He played 1st base and got eight outs. Meaning he got the ball and tapped the base before 8 players of the other team made it to 1st base, therefore being out. Way to go, Dylan!! (Must have those skills from his mom)


Dylan spielt nun die zweite Saison Little League Baseball. Letztes Jahr hiess es noch T-Ball, weil der Ball auf einen Stand (der aussieht wie ein umgedrehtes T) gelegt wird und die Kinder schlagen den Ball von dort weg. Dies Jahr ist es Coach Pitch, und der Coach wirft den Kindern den Ball zu und sie schlagen ihn mitten in der Luft. Ziemlich beeindruckend fuer eine Gruppe 6-Jaehriger!

Diesen vergangenen Samstag war das zweite Spiel der Saison. Dylan's Team heisst Tampa Bay Devil Rays und sie spielten gegen die Texas Rangers. Leider konnte ich nicht zu diesem Spiel weil es um 14 Uhr war und Tyler da immer Mittagsschlaf haelt. Steve hat mir hinterher erzaehlt wie super Dylan gespielt hat. Er hat 1st Base gespielt und 8 Outs (Aus) gehabt, das heisst er hat den Ball gefangen und seine Base damit beruehrt bevor 8 Spieler des anderen Teams 1st Base erreicht hatten und daher aus waren. Prima, Dylan!! (Er muss seine Balltalente von seiner Mama haben!!!)

Busy Wednesdays

Wednesdays are busy in our house. On a typical Wednesday:
I get up at 6:45am, wake up Dylan and have him get dressed. I make his breakfast and prepare his lunch and at 7:30 our neighbor takes him to school along with his own son. Meanwhile Tyler has gotten up and wants his warm morning milk and a "Little Einsteins" show on TV. I get on the computer to check emails, chat a little, and read some news while drinking my coffee.
I make Tyler breakfast, prepare Steve's lunch for work and eat something myself. After getting Tyler and myself dressed, at 9:30 we have gymnastics. Its a half hour of fun tumbling for Tyler and he loves it. Usually right afterwards we go to the gym so I can work out a little while he stays at the kids club. At 11:30 we go home, Tyler goes down for a nap and I shower and get dressed. Then its lunchtime and clean time for me until 2pm when I have to get Tyler up and pick up Dylan and two neighbor kids from school.
Every other Wednesday i also watch our neighbor boy Luke from 2 until 5, because both his parents work. I make them snacks and let them unwind a bit, and then around 3pm we all sit down to do homework. At 4pm we have to go to Dylan's baseball practice and while that is going on I take Tyler to a nearby playground. Practice is over around 5:30 and we drive home and the kids watch some cartoons and I get dinner started. While dinner is cooking i give them a bath together and get them dressed in their jammies. At 6:30pm Steve usually comes home and we sit down for dinner. after that, the boys go to bed at 8pm and 8:30pm and FINALLY its me time in front of the TV. :)

Mittwoch ist ein Tag mit vollem Programm fuer uns. An einem typischen Mittwoch:
stehe ich um viertel vor 7 auf. Ich wecke Dylan und leg ihm Sachen zum anziehen hin waehrend ich dann schon mal sein Fruehstueck mache und ihm Essen fuer die Schule einpacke. Um 7:30 faehrt ihn unser Nachbar gemeinsam mit seinem eigenen Sohn zur Schule. In der Zwischenzeit ist Tyler aufgestanden und verlangt nach seiner warmen morgendlichen Milch und seiner Lieblingssendung "Little Einsteins." Ich trinke dann meinen Kaffee vorm Computer und checke emails, lese Nachrichten oder chatte falls jemand online ist. Dann wird gefruehstueckt. Ich mach mir und Tyler was zu essen und packe Steve's lunch und snacks fuer die Arbeit. Nachdem Tyler und ich angezogen sind gehts um 9:30 zum Kinderturnen. Es ist eine halbe Stunde mit rumhuepfen und Tyler liebt es sehr. Dann um 10 fahren wir zum Fitness club wo ich dann eine Stunde sport mache und Tyler in den dortigen Kinderhort geht. Um halb 12 mittags sind wir wieder zuhause, und Tyler wird hingelegt fuer sein Mittagsschlaefchen. Ich dusche, mach mich fertig und esse Mittag. Dann wird haus aufgeraeumt, und sauber gemacht. Bis 14 uhr, da muss ich dann Tyler ausm bett holen und wir fahren zusammen Dylan und zwei Nachbarjungs aus der Schule abholen.
An jedem zweiten Mittwoch passe ich nachmittags auf unseren Nachbarjungen Luke auf weil seine Eltern arbeiten. Ich lasse die Jungs bisschen rumtoben und mache ihnen was zu essen und gegen 15 uhr setzen wir uns alle zusammen hin um hausaufgaben zu machen. Um 16 Uhr hat Dylan Baseball Training und nachdem ich ihn dort abgesetzt habe fahren wir zu einem Spielplatz nahe bei. Training ist vorbei um 17:30 und dann gehts ab nach hause. Tyler und Dylan gucken TV waehrend ich anfange Abendessen zu kochen. Waehrend es kocht bade ich die beiden schnell und mach sie bettfertig. Dann so gegen halb Sieben kommt Steve nach Hause und wir essen alle zusammen. Danach wird TV geguckt. Die Jungs gehen um 20 uhr und 20:30 ins Bett und dann ist ENDLICH Zeit fuer mich angesagt. :)

Dies ist mein allererster Blog eintrag. Ich moechte taegliche Momente mit Freunden und Familie teilen und ihnen ein Fenster geben durch welches sie einen Blick in unser alltaegliches Leben werfen koennen. Wir wohnen so weit weg und es ist manchmal sehr schwer in regelmaessigen Kontakt zu bleiben. Wenn ihr moegt was ihr seht, kommt morgen wieder und seht was es neues und aufregendes bei uns gibt. :D
